With 52 games at 12 locations in six states, over 200,000 attendees and 5,000,000 viewers, the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball season captured the hearts and eyes of Australians this year.
As Principal Partner of the competition, Suncorp has been proud to help Netball Australia bring Australia’s most popular women’s sport to a new national level and launch our #TeamGirls initiative at the games.
At the Suncorp tent, it was all about your #TeamGirls one word – what does #TeamGirls and girls supporting girls mean to you?
Everyone was welcomed into the tent where they could make a personalised bracelet with their one-word, write their #TeamGirls word on the one-word wall, create a clap banner using their word and get their photo taken with their friends or group of #TeamGirls.
“My daughters have been in the tent for 30 minutes and they don’t want to leave!" Renee Hill, Melbourne.
Everyone walked away with their bespoke #TeamGirls merchandise, and with the clear message of the importance of empowering and supporting each other, just like on a netball court – “I can keep this forever, can’t wait to show my friends” said young Charlotte Low, Brisbane.
For the Grand Final showdown in Brisbane with the Sydney Giants up against the Sunshine Coast Lightning, #TeamGirls ambassadors Laura Geitz and Clare McMeniman dropped by the tent to do signings and take photos with attendees – both adults and kids.
A range of former and current netball players joined us to spread the word and help build a nation of confident girls, including Laura Geitz, Clare McMeniman, Gabi Simpson, Charlee Hodges and Liz Watson.
“#TeamGirls is such a wonderful campaign that I’m so proud to be a part of!” said former Diamonds co-captain Clare McMeniman.
“Netball is about much more than just the game, from NetSetGO up to the national league, it’s about being part of community that supports each other both on and off the court, and that’s what #TeamGirls is trying to champion.”
Overall the 2017 SSN season was a fantastic four months, that saw over 50,000 beads, 5,000 one-words cards and banners and over 20 girls who got to come out on centre stage at half time and be part of the Suncorp One Word Scramble.
